Records held on microfilm at the Family Records Centre in London. They start in 1858 and continue until recently although records have only been searched up to 1906. There were no Ellett spellings recorded however a number of Elliott/Elliot entries were found which have been recorded in case of misspelling. Cases where adultery is the reason for divorce application include the name of the co-defendant eg Ellyett Richard v Ellyett Harriet & Halse.

Vicar-General Marriage Licenses:

This surname index covers 1694 to 1850. It is an index to the surnames of the couples entered in the manuscript calendars of the archiepiscopal marriage licenses issued by the Vicar-General's office. This was to issue common licences for couples to marry in any church or chapelry and merely dispensed with the calling of banns. Until Lord Hardwicke's marriage act of 1753, the Vicar-general's office also granted special licenses to marry at any meet and convenient place usually a college or nobleman's private chapel not normally licensed for marriages.

The license contains the full names of the bride and groom, whether over 21, their respective parish and the church for which the marriage was licensed. They are kept at Lambeth Palace Library, London SE1 7JU. Quoting the full date of marriage and the names of the parties is sufficient in ordering allegations or bonds.
